Making Christmas Table Decorations with Stevie the Potter

The group “Connect” was set up in June 2015 to provide support for carers and their partners with dementia by Churches Together in Effingham and Little Bookham. The Connect group meets fortnightly from 10am to 12noon in St Lawrence Church Hall in Effingham and is for any couples in the general locality. Those currently attending come from Effingham, Bookham, Fetcham, Effingham, Leatherhead, Horsley and Dorking. One of our volunteers also organises monthly outings, usually for tea or coffee for example to various local garden centres.

“Connect” aims to provide support for the carers as well as a wide range of stimulating activities for their partners with dementia.

We have a splendid team of volunteers and each morning starts with a good cup of coffee or tea and cake or biscuits for everyone. Our mornings may include snooker, a short walk, a game of dominoes, some music, art, puzzles, a quiz, bowls or Kurling – to name a few of our activities. We also enjoy visits from experts to give us some physical exercise or to exercise our vocal chords with some singing.

We are happy to welcome more couples so if you know anyone for whom this sounds of possible interest and benefit, please let us know. Our February dates are 13th and 27th.

The group is supported by the East Court Fund (Community Foundation for Surrey) The Nursing Association for The Bookhams, Fetcham and Effingham and the John Bean Trust as well as other kind donations.
